Media Card Wrangler Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 28, 2026
Published by Wrangler Software LLC
This Privacy Policy explains how Wrangler Software LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with Media Card Wrangler, a macOS desktop application (the “App”), and our website (the “Site”). It applies to visitors of the Site, purchasers of the App, and users of the App's licensing and support features.
Media Card Wrangler is designed to organize media files that already exist on a user's own copied camera-card folders, entirely on the user's local Mac. The App's core file-organizing function does not transmit a user's media, file names, or folder contents to us. The sections below describe, specifically, the limited circumstances in which information is collected.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Purchase and Billing Information
When you purchase a license for Media Card Wrangler through the Site, payment processing is handled by Stripe, Inc. (“Stripe”), a third-party payment processor. We do not directly collect or store your full payment card number, card verification code, or other sensitive payment credentials; these are collected and processed directly by Stripe in accordance with Stripe's own privacy policy.
In connection with a purchase, we receive and store the following from Stripe:
- • Your name and email address
- • Order and transaction identifiers, purchase date, and amount paid
- • Limited billing metadata associated with the transaction (such as billing region), to the extent Stripe provides it to us
We use this information to issue your software license, send order confirmations and license keys, provide customer support, and process refunds where applicable.
1.2 License and Activation Data
Media Card Wrangler uses a license-key system to verify that a copy of the App is properly licensed. When you activate the App on a Mac, the App communicates with our license server and transmits:
- • Your license key
- • A hashed (non-reversible) identifier derived from the Mac on which you are activating the App
- • The activation or deactivation request itself, and its timestamp
We use this information to enforce the per-license activation limit (currently up to two Macs per license), to allow you to deactivate a Mac and free up that seat for another machine, and to support license recovery if you lose your license key. We do not collect your device's actual hardware identifiers, only the hashed value used for activation matching.
1.3 Diagnostic Reports You Choose to Send Us
Each time you run a “wrangle” with the App, the App writes a human-readable report and a JSON “undo receipt” describing what the App did to that media card. These files are written locally to your own Mac and are not automatically or routinely transmitted to us.
If you contact us for customer support and choose to share a wrangle report or undo receipt with us (for example, by attaching it to a support email), we will receive and use that file solely to diagnose and resolve the issue you reported. You are in control of whether this information is ever sent to us; the App does not send it on your behalf without your action.
1.4 Support and Correspondence
If you email us for support, license recovery, or other inquiries, we collect the information you provide in that correspondence, including your email address, the content of your message, and any attachments you choose to include (such as a wrangle report, as described in Section 1.3). We use this information to respond to you and to maintain a record of support interactions.
Support email is stored in a support-ticket system we operate so that we can track and respond to inquiries. That system reads messages from our business email account and stores a copy of each message, including the sender's name and email address, the subject and body of the message, any attachments, and the dates of the correspondence, together with the status labels and internal notes we add while handling the request. Our email account remains the primary record; the ticket system holds a copy. Only messages addressed to our support address, or that form part of an existing support conversation, are stored in it; other mail in our account is not.
1.5 Website Usage Information
The Site does not use analytics, tracking pixels, advertising cookies, or similar tracking technologies. We do not set cookies on visitors to the Site. (The separate administrative area we use to manage licenses sets a session cookie, but that area is not accessible to visitors.) If we ever add analytics, we will update this Policy first to describe what is collected, the provider used, and the purpose, along with any applicable consent mechanism.
1.6 Software Update Checks
The App uses the open-source Sparkle framework to check for new versions. If you allow automatic update checks (the App asks before turning them on), or when you choose Check for Updates manually, the App contacts our update feed to see whether a newer version is available. The update feed and the update downloads are hosted on GitHub, so these requests go to GitHub's servers and are subject to GitHub's privacy policy; like any web request, they include your IP address and standard request metadata such as the App version and macOS version. We do not operate the update server, we do not receive analytics from it, and update checks do not transmit your name, email, license key, or any information about your files. The App does not use Sparkle's optional system-profile reporting. You can decline or turn off automatic update checks at any time and still update manually.
1.7 Download Link Requests
Media Card Wrangler runs only on macOS. If you visit our download page from a phone or tablet, the Site offers to email you a link to that page so that you can download the App later from a Mac. Using this feature is optional; you may copy the link yourself instead, and we collect nothing if you do.
If you choose to use it, we collect:
- • The email address you enter
- • The IP address from which the request is made
We use the email address only to send you a single message containing the download link. We use the IP address, together with the email address, to enforce rate limits that prevent this feature from being used to send unwanted email to other people.
We do not add addresses submitted through this feature to any mailing or marketing list, and we do not send promotional or follow-up messages to them. The message is delivered by our email service provider as described in Section 4.1. Both the email address and the IP address are automatically deleted within 24 hours of the request, once they are no longer needed for rate limiting.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
To be clear about the boundaries of what Media Card Wrangler does, we want to be specific about what we do not collect:
- • We do not collect, view, transmit, or have access to your media files, footage, photos, or audio recordings. All file-organizing operations performed by the App happen locally on your Mac.
- • We do not collect the names, folder structures, or contents of files on your camera cards, except where you voluntarily include such information in a wrangle report you choose to send us for support.
- • We do not collect your full payment card number or banking credentials; these are handled exclusively by Stripe.
- • We do not sell personal information.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described in Section 1 for the following purposes:
- • To deliver, activate, and license the App
- • To process purchases, send order confirmations, and handle billing questions and refunds
- • To provide customer support, including diagnosing issues using information you voluntarily share with us
- • To detect and prevent fraud, license misuse, or violations of our license terms
- • To communicate with you about your purchase, license, or support request
- • To maintain and improve the App and the Site
- • To comply with legal obligations, such as tax and financial recordkeeping
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
4.1 Service Providers
We share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, including:
- • Stripe, Inc., for payment processing and billing
- • Our license-management infrastructure provider(s), which host the database used to issue, validate, and track license activations
- • Our database hosting provider, which hosts the database in which support correspondence and support-ticket records are stored
- • Our business email provider, which hosts the account that receives support correspondence
- • Email service providers used to deliver license keys, order confirmations, support correspondence, and download links requested from the Site
These service providers are authorized to use your information only as necessary to provide their services to us and are subject to their own privacy and security obligations.
4.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others, or to investigate fraud or security issues.
4.3 Business Transfers
If Wrangler Software LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of business assets, information we hold may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the protections described in this Policy.
4.4 With Your Consent
We may share information for other purposes with your explicit consent, such as when you choose to send us a wrangle report or undo receipt for support purposes.
5. Data Retention
- • Purchase and billing records are retained for as long as necessary to fulfill your license, respond to support or warranty inquiries, and comply with tax, accounting, and other legal obligations.
- • License and activation records are retained for as long as your license remains valid, and for a reasonable period afterward to support license recovery requests.
- • Support correspondence, including any voluntarily shared wrangle reports or undo receipts, is retained only as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry and for a reasonable period afterward for quality and reference purposes, after which it is deleted or anonymized. This includes the copy held in our support-ticket system.
- • Wrangle reports and undo receipts generated by the App remain on your own Mac under your control and are subject to your own device's storage and deletion practices, except for any copy you voluntarily send to us.
- • Download-link requests, meaning the email address and IP address submitted to have a download link emailed to you, are automatically deleted within 24 hours of the request. They are retained only long enough to send that message and to enforce anti-abuse rate limits.
6. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect the information we hold from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. License and activation data is stored in a database accessed only as necessary to operate our licensing service. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, which may include the right to:
- • Request access to the personal information we hold about you
- • Request correction of inaccurate information
- • Request deletion of your information, subject to our legal and legitimate business retention needs
- • Object to or restrict certain processing of your information
- • Request a copy of your information in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@mediacardwrangler.com. We will respond in accordance with applicable law. You may also deactivate a Mac from your license at any time from within the App, and you control whether any wrangle report or undo receipt is ever shared with us.
8. Children's Privacy
Media Card Wrangler and the Site are intended for professional and prosumer use by editors, DITs, videographers, and similar users, and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@mediacardwrangler.com so we can take appropriate action.
9. International and Out-of-State Users
Wrangler Software LLC is based in Michigan. Michigan does not currently have a comprehensive consumer privacy statute, but customers in other states or countries may be entitled to additional rights under the laws of their own jurisdiction. If you access the Site or App from outside Michigan, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in Michigan or other locations where our service providers (including Stripe) operate. By using the App or Site, you understand that your information may be transferred to these locations.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Site or App may contain links to third-party websites or services, including Stripe's checkout pages. This Policy does not apply to those third-party services, and we encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the App, or applicable law. If we make material changes, we will update the “Effective Date” above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically. This page is the only authoritative version of our Privacy Policy; copies saved or downloaded elsewhere may not reflect the current version.
